Yuzu emulator pays Nintendo $2.4 million to reach settlement, development team ordered to have permanent ban

[Yuzu emulator paid Nintendo $2.4 million to reach a settlement, and the development team was issued a permanent ban] We previously reported that Nintendo sued “Tropic Haze”, the developer of Switch emulator Yuzu. According to the latest news, the two parties have reached a settlement for money and a permanent restraining order. Tropic Haze agreed to pay $2.4 million in damages, and as part of the Rhode Island District Court ruling, Tropic Haze is prohibited from marketing the Yuzu emulator or providing any source code related to it in the future. Its members are also prohibited from creating any software to circumvent Nintendo's technical protections, and Tropic Haze must hand over all website domains and information about the emulator. This permanent ban is legally binding and any future violations by Tropic Haze or its members will be subject to sanctions. Nintendo said in the original lawsuit filing: "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was pirated more than 1 million times in the week and a half before its release last May. The Yuzu emulator can play almost all NS games without the need for development/publishing. If the merchant pays a dime, it has actually become a tool for infringement.” Bunnei, one of the founders of Yuzu, later issued a statement in the community: "Our team does not advocate piracy. Because we are passionate about games, we carried out this project seriously, but unexpectedly it brought harm to it. Therefore, we decided to go offline today. code base, take down servers and communities, and soon shut down the website. Hopefully our actions will be a small step towards ending piracy."
