Stranger No. 1
This character is actually the early version of the familiar “Lucky Guy.” He existed long before the button-eye art style became the game’s norm. In the early tutorial, he appeared as an NPC. Although he was initially designed as a playable character, he was later converted into a non-playable NPC, making him unplayable.
His concept art and model were used as early references for male survivors such as the Adventurer, Mercenary, and Seer. In fact, the Seer’s face model was directly based on him!
Addict
Due to the sensitive nature of this character’s background, he was likely to be heavily censored if added to the official version. To avoid controversy, the developers decided to scrap him entirely. His original ability involved self-healing, a concept later reworked into what became the Doctor.
He carried a syringe and multiple vials, matching his “addict” name. The syringe even looked similar to the one used by the Doctor today.
His 3D model and artwork had significant differences—most of the outfit’s colors were changed, except for the inner lining. Personally, I think the original artwork had a more appealing color scheme. Later, his 3D model served as a reference for several characters like the Lawyer, Forward, Cowboy, and Magician.
Graveyard Girl
Also known as “Single Ponytail Girl” or “Bad Girl,” she was designed as a Survivor, not an NPC. She was created around the same time as the Lucky Guy. If Lucky Guy can be seen as “Adam,” then she was “Eve”—the prototype for all future female survivors.
Because her concept overlapped too much with Lucky Guy’s, she was ultimately dropped.
Her outfit design was later changed, and her model went on to influence many female characters—from the Doctor to the Enchantress.
Two Unnamed Characters
These two characters didn’t even get names—only rough models exist, with little additional information. It's believed that their designs didn’t fit the game’s period setting, as their clothing appeared too modern.
Ascetic Monk
Based on Indian cultural themes, this character had no button eyes and was one of the earliest designs. However, no model or concept sheet was ever developed, meaning he was likely scrapped very early on.
Black-Haired Lucky Guy & Human-Eyed Mercenary
The black-haired version of Lucky Guy once appeared in promotional material. As for the human-eyed version of Mercenary, he was known as “Nightwalker” back then. Both concepts were discarded as the art direction shifted toward the button-eyed, puppet-like style we now recognize as the game’s signature look.
These are all the scrapped beta-phase survivors that never made it to Identity V. Interestingly, Stranger No. 1’s avatar still remains in the game!
