So the question is: Why is this happening? Is it due to production limitations, or is there another reason? Let’s take a look at what Trailblazers have been speculating.
First speculation: Existing 4-stars already meet current team needs.
Characters like Tingyun, Gallagher, and Pela have extremely high versatility, covering most daily content and even the Memory of Chaos. Even when new team compositions emerge, we still have our ever-adaptable Trailblazer, making it easier for new players to keep up. Given this, it might be more efficient to delay the creation of new 4-star units and instead focus development resources on 5-star characters.
Second speculation: Design cost concerns.
Creating a 4-star character costs about the same as designing a 5-star. But since 4-stars usually appear as banner fillers or are given out through events, their return on investment isn’t as high as that of limited 5-stars. Additionally, a fully built new 4-star might outshine older limited 5-stars, which could present a balance issue. So, the developers might have chosen to slow down the release of new 4-stars to maintain the value of 5-stars.
Third speculation: Production constraints.
It’s possible that the dev team has too many things on their plate—collaborations, skins, expansive worldbuilding, storyline content, and so on. This could mean they can only guarantee the output of 5-star characters, resulting in the postponement of new 4-stars.
Another factor: Storyline constraints.
Looking at the Fyluros arc, most of the Aurum Alley characters are clearly positioned as 5-stars. Introducing a 4-star from this faction might upset players who expect high-tier representation.
The most likely version for a new 4-star might be 3.8.
Once we return to Penacony, there's a chance that Mr. Rikke might enter the pool. But for now, that’s just speculation.
