🔹 Gardener
In a photo of her childhood taken at the orphanage gate, her big eyes made her look especially cute—though her gaze shows the confusion of being separated from her father.
Both the sketch and final artwork featured real eyes. A small detail was changed: her cute little buck teeth, which were visible at first, were later removed for unknown reasons.
🔹 Bartender
She also had a realistic eye design, but only in one poster that resembles an old photo.
🔹 Lucky Guy
In the early version, not only did he have black hair, but he also had a 3D real-eye model!
The Mercenary, like Lucky Guy, also had a full 3D model with real eyes. Both characters had a somewhat vacant stare.
These early models were scrapped once the game shifted to the iconic button-eye design.
🔹 Graveyard Lady
A beta-period character who was never released due to overlapping characteristics with Lucky Guy.
🔹 Stranger No. 1 & The Addict
Also unreleased. The Addict’s poster featured real eyes, but by the time the model was made, it had already been changed to button eyes.
Among this group of older characters, all but the Forward had posters showing them with real eyes. These realistic designs helped convey more distinct personalities—quite different from the expressionless feel of button eyes!
At one point, the official dev team even released a “Death List” of characters who were already deceased in the game lore. If your favorite is on the list… our condolences.
These two images were shared by the official Weibo account in 2018. In one of them, Orpheus as a child still had freckles—absolutely adorable!
And of course, we can’t forget the well-known Remnants of Memory group of five, who appear with real eyes in the main storyline. Even the Entomologist has revealed her face in some plot scenes!
Beyond official designs, some talented fans have also reimagined other characters with realistic eyes, giving them even more emotional depth.
