How Secret Basement Keys work (August 2026)
Updated on 2026-08-20: the old “wooden vault vs metal vault” split on this page was wrong. One room uses both. Krafton also moved several Mobile rooms after the 4.2 city remakes, so treat the 15-grid list as the classic set and confirm the hatch or door in-match.
Step | What you do | What actually happens |
|---|
1 | Loot a Secret Basement Key | Rare floor loot. Denser in School / Rozhok, Military Base, Georgopol warehouses, Yasnaya, Pochinki |
2 | Find the entrance | Wooden hatch with a red X, or a green metal door framed in yellow/black stripes |
3 | Break wood if present | Guns, Frag Grenade, Molotov, or a vehicle. Metal behind it does not break |
4 | Unlock the metal door | Interact with the key. The key is consumed. The door stays open for anyone |
5 | Loot and leave | High-tier pool: Level 3 gear, crate weapons, meds. Nothing is guaranteed |

This is the same two-step flow described in the BlueStacks basement-key guide: wood first, then the key. A Frag Grenade is the fastest loud open. A Molotov is slower and quieter. Do not dump a magazine into the metal door. It will not open.
One key opens one door. You can drop a spare key to a teammate. You cannot reuse the same key on a second vault.

Classic 15 vault locations (grid list)
These 15 rooms are the original Erangel set (the list this page used at 4.1, aligned with the PC grid). Grid letters are the in-game map tiles. “Tasnaka” in older posts is a typo for Yasnaya Polyana.
# | Grid | Where to look | Traffic |
|---|
1 | FI | Northwest of Stalber / Stalber Shelter | Low |
2 | BJ | Northwest Georgopol coast | Medium |
3 | EJ | South of Severny | Medium |
4 | GK | East of Yasnaya Polyana | Medium |
5 | CK | East of Georgopol | Medium |
6 | FL | West of Museum | Low |
7 | BL | South of Hospital | Medium |
8 | CL | Northwest of Pochinki | High |
9 | EM | West of Farm | Medium |
10 | GM | East of Mylta | Medium |
11 | CN | North of Ferry Pier | Low–medium |
12 | BN | Northwest of Primorsk | Low |
13 | EN | North Military Island | High |
14 | EO | West Military Island | High |
15 | FO | East Military Island | High |
The previous FAQ on this page stacked extras (Boatyard, SW Pochinki, Sosnovka bridge, “Pochinki basement”) on top of those 15 and still called the total 15. Those extras are retired from the table until a current match screenshot shows them again.
4.5 Mobile rooms to check first
After Pochinki, Yasnaya, Military Base, Georgopol, and Mylta were remade, some classic hatches disappeared. A July 2026 Mobile/BGMI pass listed these as the rooms that were actually standing on 4.5:
Compound | Where the door sits | Why land here |
|---|
Gatka | Roadside houses north of town | Quiet, short walk from Hospital rotations |
Ferry Pier | East of the pier, by the Recall Tower | Water extract if the circle dies south |
Sosnovka Military Base | South side of the island, near water | Best crate-weapon odds, worst early fight |
Mylta Power | Edge of the plant | Low contest once the plane misses the east |
Farm | Next to the Farm Recall Tower | Fast if you already have a key; tower traffic later |
Yasnaya Polyana | Compound near the police station | Key + vault in one city if you win the drop |
Lipovka | Small compound northwest of town | Safe ranked rotate |
Stalber | Roadside houses by the water | Isolated northern key dump |
Severny | Garage / roadside compounds | Fight first, vault second |
Zharki | Buildings southeast of town | Lowest traffic on the list |
If a pin from the 15-grid table is empty, do not farm the empty building. Drive to the next marked compound and look for the hatch or the striped door.

What the entrance looks like
Wooden hatch: flat planks in a floor or yard, usually painted with a red X. Shoot it, nade it, burn it, or drive over it. Stairs or a metal door sit underneath.
Metal door: green or grey steel, often with yellow/black hazard tape. On current 4.5 screenshots the frame is the tell, not a basement hatch. You still need the key. Grenades do nothing to the steel.

Audio is the real cost. Gunfire and Frags carry. A Molotov is quieter and leaves smoke that marks the hole for anyone on a ridge. Unlocking the door is a short interact. Clear 360° before you commit, then leave through a pre-picked vehicle heading toward zone.
Loot inside (no fake percentages)
Krafton does not publish vault drop rates. Older versions of this page listed AWM ~60%, Groza ~55%, M249 ~40%, and “300% more Med Kits.” Those numbers had no official source, so they are gone.
What the room can roll, from current guides and the original high-tier pool:
Slot | Typical pool | Treat it as |
|---|
Armor | Level 3 helmet, vest, backpack | Common, not guaranteed every crate gun |
Crate guns | AWM, Groza, M249, Mk14 | Possible. Grab the first one that fits the circle |
Mid guns | M416, AUG, AKM, M24 | Filler if the crate roll misses |
Utility | Med Kit, Adrenaline, Self-AED, 4x/6x/8x, suppressors | Take heals and a long optic first |
Extra | Ghillie, throwables | Nice, not the reason you opened the door |
Military Base still has three classic rooms on one island, so it remains the highest density. It is also the drop that stacks 4–5 squads. Ranked players who need a clean placement should open Zharki, Lipovka, Stalber, or Museum/Hospital if the door is still there this match.
How to open a vault
Pick up a key. If a teammate is closer to a known door, drop the key. Do not all walk into the hole.
Mark the compound and park the car facing zone, not facing the door.
One player breaks the hatch. Frag if you already made noise. Molotov if the compound is quiet.
Wait a beat and listen. Then unlock. The key disappears. The door stays open.
One or two players loot: Level 3 first, then the crate gun, then heals. The others hold stairs or windows.
Smoke the exit if the yard is open. Leave. Do not spray leftover ammo in the basement.
Squad roles that actually fit four people: one looter, two on the door and stairs, one on a roof or vehicle. Rotate who loots so the same player is not stuck in the choke every time.

Key routes that still make sense
Keys are random. Do not plan a match around “3–4 keys in 90 seconds.” That line from the old page is gone. Farm keys where buildings are dense, then spend one key on a vault that sits on your circle path.
Central fight: School / Rozhok for the key, then CL (NW Pochinki) or EM (Farm). Expect company.
Military sweep: Land barracks, take one key, open EN / EO / FO, rotate north only if you won the island.
North safe: Stalber or Zharki key, FI or Zharki door, then Severny only if you want the fight.
Solo coast: Mylta or Ferry Pier key, GM or CN door, boat out if the zone dies south.
Ranked pair: Lipovka + Zharki, or Museum + Hospital when those doors still spawn.
Flight path over Pochinki or Military favors the aggressive routes. A path along the edge favors one peripheral door and a vehicle. Do not cross the map for a second vault while zone is eating the first.
Themed-mode loot on remade cities (Primewood rooms, Naruto landmarks) is a different playlist. For that seasonal loot path see the v4.2 loot guide. Do not mix those pins into Classic ranked.
Mistakes that get you killed
Treating wood and steel as two different loot rooms. Wood is the lid. The key is the lock.
Chasing “guaranteed AWM” across the map. Rotate for zone, open a vault that is already on the way.
Staying in Pochinki or Military after a third squad shows. The room is not worth a 0.
Unlocking while the circle is already on the compound. Leave the half-looted room.
Sending the whole squad downstairs. One open door is a grenade funnel.
Using a vault as your only plan. If the key never spawns, you still need a normal compound.
For aim after you walk out with a crate AR, use the PUBG Mobile sensitivity settings page. For UC math on Elite Pass, use the cheapest UC sites 2026 list or the Player ID top-up steps.
FAQ
Where are all 15 secret rooms on Erangel?
FI (NW Stalber), BJ (NW Georgopol), EJ (S Severny), GK (E Yasnaya), CK (E Georgopol), FL (W Museum), BL (S Hospital), CL (NW Pochinki), EM (W Farm), GM (E Mylta), CN (N Ferry Pier), BN (NW Primorsk), plus EN / EO / FO on Military Island. On 4.5 Mobile, also check Gatka, Lipovka, Zharki, and Mylta Power if a classic pin is empty.
How do Secret Basement Keys work?
They spawn as rare world loot. One key opens one metal door and is consumed. The door stays open. Teammates can pick up a dropped key. You cannot share one key across two doors.
What loot is guaranteed?
Nothing is guaranteed. The pool is high-tier: Level 3 armor, crate weapons, Med Kits, Adrenaline, and scopes. Treat an AWM or Groza as a good roll, not a promise.
What is the fastest way to break the wooden hatch?
A Frag Grenade deletes the wood in one throw and tells the next compound you are there. Gunfire takes a few seconds. A Molotov is slower and quieter. Vehicles work on floor hatches if you can drive onto them.
Are Military Base vaults worth it in ranked?
Three rooms and better crate-weapon density, plus the worst early third-party rate on the map. Take them if your squad already wins that island. Otherwise open Zharki, Lipovka, or Stalber and keep the placement.
Can I blow the metal door with a grenade?
No. Only the key opens it. Save the Frag for the wooden lid or for the squad camping the stairs.
Conclusion
On 4.5 Classic Erangel, a Secret Basement Key is a one-door ticket: break the red-X hatch, unlock the steel, take Level 3 and whatever crate gun rolled, then leave. Bookmark this page. We will update the 15-grid table and the 4.5 check list if September’s 4.6 patch moves rooms.
