How each Signal Search channel counts pity
Pity is a per-channel search count since your last S-Rank on that family. Same family shares one counter. Different families do not.
Exclusive Channel. Limited Agents. Sigrid and Remielle share this counter. A search on one Exclusive board raises pity on the other. 50/50 applies. Lose the 50/50 and the next Exclusive S-Rank is the featured Agent on whatever Exclusive board you pull.
Exclusive Rescreening. Own family. Exclusive pity and Exclusive 50/50 do not move this bar. Pick one of the three reruns. Your first S-Rank in the current Rescreening period is that pick. The first 10-search on the period costs 8 Encrypted Master Tapes. Switch tabs and you do not reset the discount or the special guarantee. The special guarantee dies after that first S-Rank, or when the period ends unused. The regular 90-search floor still carries to the next Rescreening period.
Stable Channel (Star-Studded Cast). Master Tapes. Permanent pool. No 50/50. S-Rank can be an Agent or a W-Engine after the beginner window. After 300 lifetime searches on this channel you pick one bonus standard S-Rank once: Nekomata, Koleda, Soldier 11, Von Lycaon, Grace, or Rina.
Beginner Stable rules. The first five 10-searches cost 8 Master Tapes each. Singles stay full price. Your first Stable S-Rank is an Agent. If 49 searches produce no S-Rank, search 50 is an S-Rank Agent. After that, the 90-search floor and the mixed Agent / W-Engine S-Rank pool take over. The 300-search selector keeps counting through the beginner window.
W-Engine Channel. Signature W-Engines. 80-search hard pity. 75% featured on the first S-Rank; a miss locks the next S-Rank to the featured engine. Separate from Agents.
W-Engine Reverberation. Own family, same special-first-S-Rank idea as Rescreening. Phase II picks: Yesterday Calls, Metanukimorphosis, Zanshin Herb Case. First 10-search of the period is 8 Encrypted Master Tapes.
Bangboo Channel. Boopons. You cannot convert Polychrome into Boopons. Hard pity 80. Inter-Knot Level 20.
Spend Polychrome on Exclusive or Rescreening. Feed Stable with free Master Tapes from events and shops. A limited Agent does not move into Star-Studded Cast.
Soft pity: the ramp after search 75
Soft pity is the climb in S-Rank chance before hard pity. It is not a flat 6.6% that repeats from 75 to 89.
Community pull logs put the first step on Agent boards at search 75: base 0.600% jumps to about 6.6% (0.6 + 6), then the rate keeps rising each search until you hit an S-Rank or the 90th search. That is why most S-Ranks cluster around 75-85, and why the cumulative line on player charts steepens after 74.
W-Engine and Bangboo boards start that ramp earlier, near search 64-65, because hard pity is 80. Treating those boards as "soft pity at 75" wastes the 15 searches where the rate has climbed.
Budget the hard floor. Soft pity makes an S-Rank likely. It does not print one. If you land Sigrid at 78 on guarantee, stop. If you sit on 50/50 at 75, ask whether you can fund a second 90-search cycle before you walk into the ramp.
A 0.600% rate across 74 dry searches is about a 36% chance you already have an S-Rank. "Build pity" on a skip banner fails more than one time in three.
Hard pity: 90 on Agents, 80 on W-Engines
Search 90 on Exclusive, Rescreening, or Stable without an S-Rank is 100% S-Rank. Search 80 on W-Engine, Reverberation, or Bangboo is the same idea.
Hard pity on Exclusive still rolls 50/50 unless you already hold guarantee. Hard pity on Stable rolls the standard S-Rank pool (Agent or W-Engine after beginner). Hard pity on W-Engine still rolls 75/25 unless the last S-Rank missed featured.
Players who "passed 90" mixed two channel families, counted A-Rank pity as S-Rank pity, or read the wrong History tab. The floor does not slip.
A-Rank pity (every 10) runs beside S-Rank pity. Purple does not zero the gold counter.
The 50/50 and Custom Search
Exclusive Channel S-Ranks do two checks: rarity, then featured vs off-banner.
50/50 status: 50% featured Agent, 50% one Agent from your Custom Search list.
After a featured win, the next Exclusive S-Rank returns to 50/50.
After an off-banner loss, the next Exclusive S-Rank is featured. That flag survives pity reset, banner swap, phase swap, and version swap.
Pity count and guarantee status are two fields. An S-Rank zeros the count. Only a featured Exclusive S-Rank clears guarantee.
Version 3.1 replaced the old "lose 50/50 into a random standard six" story. Exclusive and W-Engine boards now let you pick six S-Rank Agents or W-Engines. An off-banner S-Rank is one of those six. Tsukishiro Yanagi, Caesar, and Zhu Yuan plus their signature W-Engines joined Custom Search this version, so the off-banner list is no longer the launch six only. Set the six before you pull. A miss that hands you a Mindscape you wanted is a cheaper miss than a random Koleda.
You also pick two A-Rank rate-ups. Leave them blank and the board uses the default pair (Soukaku and Lucy on Sigrid's board).
Stable Channel still uses the launch six for the 300-search selector. Custom Search does not add Yanagi to that selector.
Duplicates become Mindscape Cinema material.
Worst case for one specific limited Agent on Exclusive: 180 searches (28,800 Polychrome) from zero pity and no guarantee. Worst case for two extra copies after a win: another 180 if you lose then hit the floor twice more. Stop after the first copy unless you planned Mindscapes.
W-Engine uses 75/25 instead of 50/50. Worst case for a featured engine: 160 searches (25,600 Polychrome).
Exclusive Rescreening vs Exclusive Channel
Rescreening looks like a limited Agent board. It is a different counter.

Pull Rescreening when Dialyn, Yuzuha, or Harumasa fills a hole and you want the first S-Rank locked. Pull Exclusive when you want Sigrid or Remielle and you are ready to spend a stored Exclusive guarantee. Do not dump leftover Exclusive pity into Rescreening. That pity stays on Exclusive.
How to read History and 50/50
The game stores the count. It does not print "pity 74" on the pull button.
Open Signal Search.
Select the exact family: Exclusive, Rescreening, Stable, W-Engine, Reverberation, or Bangboo.
Open Details → History.
Count every row from the newest entry down to the last S-Rank of that family. Gold, purple, and blue all add one.
That number is current pity. 74 on Exclusive means the next search starts the soft-pity ramp. 89 means the next search is hard pity.
No S-Rank on that family: pity equals your total searches there.
50/50 check, Exclusive only:
Last Exclusive S-Rank was off-banner (a Custom Search Agent, or an old standard) → you sit on guarantee.
Last Exclusive S-Rank was the featured limited → you sit on 50/50.
No Exclusive S-Rank in History → 50/50.
Stable, W-Engine, and Rescreening rows do not change Exclusive guarantee. History length is finite (about 100 to 200 rows). Older rows can fall off the list. Only searches after the last S-Rank matter, so a truncated log is enough if that S-Rank is visible.
Pity does not decay. Leave Exclusive at 80, return two versions later, you still sit at 80.
When to stop pulling
Got the featured Agent before 75: stop unless the plan was Mindscapes.
On guarantee at 75: finish the cycle. The next S-Rank is the featured Agent.
On 50/50 at 75: only continue if 28,800 Polychrome (minus current pity) still fits the account. Soft pity raises the chance you spend that money now.
Building pity on a skip Exclusive board still risks a 36% early S-Rank and a reset. Save the Polychrome.
F2P through a normal version lands enough Encrypted-equivalent searches for one hard-pity S-Rank if you clear dailies, events, and endgame. Version 3.1 is the 2nd anniversary window, so the raw Polychrome pile sits higher (community tallies put it near 16,800 plus Encrypted tapes). That still covers one featured Agent on a loss-plus-floor path only if you saved from earlier versions. Treat a 50/50 win as the next Agent's head start.

Subtract current pity. At 50 Exclusive pity you need 40 searches (6,400) to hard pity, or 130 (20,800) if you still have to survive a 50/50 loss and a second floor.
Active dailies over a ~42-day version: about 2,520 Polychrome from the daily 60. Events, Hollow Zero, Shiyu Defense, Deadly Assault, and mail fill the rest. Inter-Knot Membership adds 300 Monochrome up front and 90 Polychrome a day for 30 days.

How to check pity and spend in order
Open each History tab you care about. Write Exclusive pity, Exclusive 50/50, Rescreening pity, W-Engine pity.
Set Custom Search six and A-Rank pair before the first 10-search.
Decide Exclusive vs Rescreening. One family per session.
On Exclusive, stop at the featured Agent. On Rescreening, stop at the first S-Rank unless you want a second copy under normal 50/50.
Park leftover Encrypted tapes. Do not "finish the 10-search" after a gold.
Common errors: pulling Exclusive and Rescreening in the same night and mixing the counts; reading W-Engine History while planning Sigrid; assuming Stable 300 progress resets when an S-Rank drops (the selector is lifetime).
FAQ
Does pity reset after an S-Rank?
Yes. The channel count returns to zero. Exclusive guarantee stays until a featured Exclusive S-Rank. Rescreening's special first-S-Rank flag is a third field and only lives inside the current Rescreening period.
Do two Exclusive banners share pity?
Yes. Remielle and Sigrid share Exclusive Channel pity and Exclusive 50/50. Rescreening does not share that pair. W-Engine does not share it either.
Do Master Tapes and Encrypted Master Tapes share pity?
No. Master Tapes = Stable. Encrypted Master Tapes = Exclusive, Rescreening, W-Engine, or Reverberation, each on its own family counter. Encrypted tapes and Polychrome converted into Encrypted tapes share the board you spend them on.
What happens when a banner ends?
Same-family pity carries. Exclusive at 75 on Phase I is Exclusive at 75 on Sigrid. Guarantee carries on Exclusive. Rescreening's unused special guarantee and 8-tape discount do not carry.
How do I know if I am on guarantee?
Exclusive History, last gold. Off-banner Custom Search Agent → guarantee. Featured limited → 50/50. Empty Exclusive gold history → 50/50.
Does Bangboo pity match Agent pity?
Higher base rate (1%), hard pity 80, soft ramp near 65, Boopons instead of Polychrome. Unlocks at Inter-Knot Level 20.
Can two S-Ranks land in one 10-search?
Yes. After the first gold, the next search is a fresh 0.600% (or 1% on W-Engine / Bangboo). Rare, logged.
